The Nest, outdoor living brought indoors

The Nest

Tucked away on the edge of the forest in Rumbeke, you’ll find The Nest: a show home by Francis and Riet, founders of MonaVisa. Not a typical new-build, but a carefully considered total concept where design, sustainability and acoustics reinforce one another. A place that breathes, softens sound, embraces you, and where Vincent Sheppard feels perfectly at home.

“We didn’t want to build a house, but to create a feeling.” — Francis & Riet

Living with the forest as your neighbour

The location shaped everything. The forest didn’t become a backdrop, but a conversation partner in the design. Large glass surfaces bring the greenery inside, while natural materials subtly blur the boundary between indoors and outdoors. Biodiversity is central here: around the home, a green landscape emerges that is not only beautiful, but also functional. The Nest is, quite literally and figuratively, embedded in its surroundings.

Sustainability as second nature

Geothermal energy, solar panels and energy-neutral living aren’t labels here, they’re choices. Even the concrete tells a sustainable story: reclaimed in Ostend, applied in a raw and honest way.

Sustainability lives not only in technology, but also in timeless design: materials and shapes that last, that bring calm.

Organic forms take the lead throughout the home. From stretch ceilings with subtle curves to rounded volumes that balance tension and softness. Everything feels fluid and natural, as if the house shaped itself.

Outdoor living, brought inside

Choosing Vincent Sheppard was no coincidence. The young, refined design and subtle outdoor feel align perfectly with Francis and Riet’s vision.

The Ari coffee table and Titus lounge chairs fit seamlessly into an interior where earthy tones, soft textures and a tangible sense of calm come together.

What happens outside should be something you can feel inside.

Inspiration from within

Francis and Riet draw inspiration from their daily work at MonaVisa, from collaborations with architects and interior designers, but above all, from their own creativity.

“I just started drawing with little ideas I picked up everywhere.”
