You can repair scratches by using a touch-up paint designed for Lloyd Loom. You can order touch-ups for all Vincent Sheppard loom colours on our webshop.

If the damage to your chairs is too severe, we can paint the Lloyd Loom chairs. Depending on the base colour and any defects or damage to the chairs, this is possible in a limited number of colours. Please contact one of our stockists for a quote.

You cannot leave indoor Lloyd Loom furniture outside. Our outdoor Lloyd Loom models have been treated for outdoor use and can simply be left outside. However, please note that these models cannot withstand frost or heavy rain. To preserve the quality and longevity of the material, we strongly recommend storing them inside during cold or rainy periods

Use a damp cloth and some natural, mild soap to clean your Lloyd Loom furniture.

Lloyd Loom chairs are made from woven paper. Using twisted kraft paper as the warp and kraft paper spun around a steel wire as the weft, the Lloyd Loom material is produced in rolls, much like textile. These sheets are then hand-shaped and stapled onto rattan or wooden furniture frames, resulting in a smooth, attractive finish that won’t snag on clothing or skin.

No, rattan chairs are not the same as reed chairs or regular woven chairs.

  • Rattan is a solid wood-like material derived from the rattan palm, a tropical climbing plant. Rattan stems are steamed and bent into the desired shape under high temperatures. Once cooled, the material is incredibly strong and lasts for decades.

  • Reed is a hollow water plant that is very fragile and is typically used for fine decorative weaving. The term "reed chairs" is often incorrectly used to refer to rattan chairs.

  • Woven chairs can be made from various materials. This refers to the technique, not the material itself. Chairs can be woven using rattan, Lloyd Loom, paper cord, or synthetic materials.

Dust your rattan furniture regularly with a soft cloth and you can enjoy it for years! Below you will find several maintenance tips for rattan:

  • Regular dusting: Use a soft cloth or duster to gently remove dust.

  • Cleaning stains: Use a damp cloth with mild soapy water, making sure the cloth is not too wet. Dry thoroughly after cleaning to prevent mold and mildew.

  • Deep cleaning: Use a soft-bristled brush or a toothbrush and warm soapy water to clean the weave and crevices. Ensure the furniture is completely dry afterward.

  • Avoid harsh chemicals: Do not use bleach or abrasive scouring pads to clean the rattan.

No, natural rattan chairs or lamps are sensitive to moisture and should not be left outside. Rattan absorbs water and will mold, turn black, and eventually break if you leave the rattan furniture in the garden. Intense sunlight can also cause rattan to dry out and start splintering.

Chairs or lamps with a rattan look made of plastic can perfectly be left outside. Synthetic wicker is made for the outdoors and has the following advantages:

  • UV-resistant and will therefore not discolor

  • Waterproof and frost-resistant

  • Can be left outside all year round
