Alain Gilles
Brussels-based designer Alain Gilles did not follow a standard route. After studying Political Science and Marketing Management he first discovered the ins and outs of the financial world. Still, after a few years, he decided to go down a new path and, with moral support from his wife, to study industrial design in France. Design became his second life.
When the spark happens
Alain Gilles describes the perfect design moment as the moment where two ideas that do not necessarily go together meet and give birth to something new. For the Wicked collection this is the contradiction between industrial metal processes and woven wicker.

Alain Gilles' design vision
To Alain Gilles, good design is clearly readable. By looking at it, people can partially already understand the beginning of the story. Design has strength and is characterized by the designer's signature. Through different projects, people are able to read the vision of the designer.
Structural design, stunning craftsmanship
In his Wicked collection, Alain Gilles masterfully blends the warmth of woven wicker with the sleek elegance of modern metal frames. The structure enables playful use of colours, whereas the synthetic rattan seat adds a soft touch to the design. Because the latter is the part closest to the body, you can truly feel the craftsmanship in every detail.

How do you like to drink your coffee?
I don't drink coffee, only tea.
What is your favourite design piece?
I would rather say architecture. My favourite architect is Oscar Niemeyer, what he does is more than design.
What is your favourite hotel?
I would say 25 Hours Hotels. I like the freshness, colours and vibrant atmosphere.
